Day of Prayer: The God of All Comfort
Tomorrow is Covenant’s Day of Prayer for the semester. Our theme is The God of All Comfort, taken from 2 Corinthians 1:3-5: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
Here are some suggested prayer topics for the day as we seek God together.
- Praise God for His Fatherly care of us, for his compassion and comfort, for his miraculous working of turning our sufferings into opportunities to comfort others.
- Praise God for sending Jesus Christ to live on this earth, to experience life as a human being, to endure temptation (yet without sin), to live the perfect life that we cannot, to suffer a horrible death on the cross, to take the punishment for our sins on himself, to rise again in victory over death and suffering, to be seated at the right hand of the Father where he intercedes on our behalf.
- Praise God for drawing us into his family, a family of redeemed sinners, whose lives now have a Godward focus and direction. Praise him that even in, and perhaps more clearly in, our troubles, we are drawn to him and are able to witness of his grace and goodness in our lives. Praise him that he allows us to comfort others out of the comfort He has given to us.
- Pray for Covenant College community members who struggle with physical suffering—those with ongoing physical ailments, those with injuries. Pray for their encouragement, healing, and recovery. Pray for them to persevere in glorifying God in every circumstance. Pray for us as a community to come alongside and serve in any helpful ways.
- Pray for our community members struggling with deep emotional needs. Pray for those who feel unloved, rejected, friendless. Pray for them to know the deep comfort of Christ’s love and grace to them. Pray that they would find their identity in Him alone. Pray that as a community and as individuals we would be seeking out those who are often alone and reminding them of the truths of the gospel. Pray that we would pursue them with the love of Christ.
- Pray for our community members who have experienced loss. Pray for those who have lost family members and friends. Pray for them as they grieve, often at a distance from the rest of their family. Pray for God’s comfort and healing.
- Pray for our community members who have experienced trauma or abuse of any kind. Pray for forgiveness and healing to take place by God’s grace.
- Pray for the work of the churches of the Chattanooga area, that they might faithfully proclaim the gospel in word and deed. Pray for those working in community centers, outreach programs, women’s centers, rescue missions as they seek to share the love of Christ. Pray for opportunities in your own life to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
- Pray for our brothers and sisters who live under persecution. Barnabas Fund has a terrific prayer guide to help us pray for the one in ten Christians who deal with persecution because of their faith in Christ.
